Tool comparisons
AEO Action vs Profound: an honest comparison.
Profound is enterprise AI-search analytics with an agent layer. AEO Action is an autonomous AEO department for small teams. The row-by-row ledger — including the rows Profound wins.
Updated 2026-08-11 · Prices and data verified 2026-08-11
AEO Action and Profound overlap on exactly one job— measuring how AI assistants answer your buyers' questions — and separate on everything after the measurement. Profound is an enterprise AI-visibility platform: deep answer-engine data, sold demo-first, its acting layer credit-metered, its best-known features on custom contracts. AEO Action is an autonomous AEO department for small businesses and agencies: it scans up to six engines daily, prepares the fix, publishes after your approval, and keeps a dated receipt when the page gets cited — from $149/month, self-serve. Below: six questions in both columns, and when Profound is the better buy.
Two products, two different jobs
Profound, in the neutral one-liner from our dataset: Enterprise AI-visibility platform with an agentic content layer (Agents, Aim), sold demo-first to large brands. Measurement at scale is its center of gravity, plus Agents that research, brief, and draft content — and, since July 2026, Aim, an always-on orchestrator whose launch coverage (Yahoo Finance, Adweek) signals enterprise placement.
AEO Action is built for the other end of the market: businesses and agencies that need answer engine optimization done, not only charted — the scan feeds a department, and the dashboard exists to prove the published page changed something. The category's whole monitor-versus-execute split is mapped in the best AI visibility tools by workflow stage; here it's just these two.
The ledger: six questions, both columns
Same question per row, so the columns actually compare: ours states what the product does today, Profound's what its published materials document.
| Compared on | AEO Action$149–549/mo · self-serve | Profound$99–399/mo self-serve · enterprise custom |

| Who does the work | A daily orchestrator picks the highest-value move from the scan and prepares the full artifact — schema, FAQ page, landing page, or Reddit pack — into an approve queue. We found no published equivalent of a shipped-to-cited receipt. |

Profound cells verified August 2026 against published list prices and public materials (tryprofound.com plus third-party pricing teardowns). AEO Action cells state what the product does today.
Two footnotes. Approval:Profound's Agents include a human approval step — the closest published analog to our approve queue; the difference is what arrives at the gate (a prepared, scan-chosen artifact versus a workflow you configured) and what follows (index submission and a receipt versus a dashboard). Prices:a competitor teardown reports Profound's pricing page went demo-led in July 2026 while other sources still corroborate the $99/$399 ladder — both claims, sourced, in the full Profound pricing teardown.
When Profound is the better choice
A real slice of readers should buy Profound; its standing with its own users says so:
4.5/5
Profound's seller-level G2 rating, across 1,037 reviews
Source: G2, 2026
Choose Profound if:
- You buy at enterprise scale. The Enterprise tier is where the platform's depth lives: Up to 10 engines, Prompt Volumes, Agent Analytics, Workflows/Content suite, Aim orchestrator, API, SOC 2, SSO. Third parties report real contracts at $2,000–5,000+/mo plus one-time setup fees of $2,500–15,000. Profound describes that data as drawing on 400M+ real user conversations.
- Procurement has hard requirements.SOC 2, SSO, and an API appear in Profound's published enterprise scope. AEO Action has none of the three today.
- You want an always-on agent system and can pay for it. Aim — monitor, diagnose, scope projects, route work to Agents, measure — is the enterprise version of the loop we sell downstairs.
- You staff an analyst. Reviewers describe a data-dense platform that rewards a dedicated operator.
If that's you, book the demo. If you sit in the middle — priced out of enterprise but wanting more than a dashboard — the wider field is compared in Profound alternatives.
What AEO Action is built to do instead
Our starting bet: the scarce thing is not more data, it's the hours between the finding and the published fix. The scan — your buyer questions, regenerated from your business profile each run, across up to six engines — feeds a department, not a chart. Each day one specialist prepares one artifact; you approve it; it ships through whichever path your platform allows; the URL goes to IndexNow. Why we automate the Bing submission — a measured reason, not a documented one:
~87%
of ChatGPT's cited pages also rank in Bing's top results
Source: Seer Interactive, 2026
Read that as an overlap measured from the outside, not a pipeline. OpenAI documents OAI-SearchBot as the crawler for ChatGPT Search and does not publish which index or indexes sit behind it. Submission is our half; indexing is Bing's decision; the correlation is why the submission is worth automating at all.
Then the loop closes: fate-tracking stamps the receipt — shipped this date, first cited that date — while the AEO Pixel and a GA4 integration read assistant-referred visitors reaching your site. The receipt answers the question to ask any vendor, including us: how will I know this worked? The submission mechanics, and what Bing does and does not control, are worked through in Bing and Copilot optimization.
One correction to our own pitch: the closed loop is our claim, not the execution itself. Writesonic pushes articles to WordPress and Gauge publishes to Webflow with more volume than we aim for; if high-output article production is the job, they are the sharper tools. What is different here is that the loop continues past publish — submission, then a dated receipt — at a listed price. For agency economics on the same rails, $549/month covers 10 client projects with white-label portals and a REST API; the per-client margin math is in AEO for agencies, and the buy-versus-hire version is in what AEO services actually charge.
The bill, four ways
Sticker-versus-sticker hides the real ledger — the alternative to both is usually a human retainer. Four ways to buy this job:
- Profound self-serve: $99/month watching one engine, or $399/month watching three; drafting Agents included but credit-metered, and the routing-and-proving hours stay on your desk.
- Profound enterprise: the full platform. Third parties report real contracts at $2,000–5,000+/mo plus one-time setup fees of $2,500–15,000.
- A human AEO retainer — the traditional way to buy the doing half:
$2,000–6,000
per month — AEO agency retainers, the human alternative both products are weighed against
Source: 2026 market research
- AEO Action: $149/month Solo, $299/month Solo Pro, $549/month Agency — list prices, a 7-day trial with no card, and the free audit before any of it.
Every tracked vendor's sticker — add-on math included — is in the AI visibility tool pricing table; buy-versus-hire is covered in what AEO services actually charge.
Best for: five buyers, five verdicts
The ledger above compares capabilities. This one compares people. Same two columns, but the cell is a verdict rather than a feature — and two of the five rows go to Profound.
| Compared on | AEO Actionthe verdict for this buyer | Profoundthe verdict for this buyer |
|---|---|---|
| Solo operator, one site, no writer | Buy this. Solo at $149/month is the only column on the page where the pages get written and shipped without hiring anyone. | Skip it. $99/month buys a clean read of ChatGPT and nothing that writes; you would be paying for eyes you already have. |
| In-house SEO at a mid-market SaaS with writers on staff | Probably not. Your hands are already staffed; our execution layer duplicates people you employ. | Buy this — the $399 Growth tier — if ChatGPT and the two other engines it covers are where your buyers ask. If they are not, a flat-priced tracker beats both of us on coverage per dollar. |
| Ten-client agency, retainers under $3,000/month | Buy this. $549/month covers 10 client projects, all six engines, white-label portals, and a REST API as line items rather than a quote. | Skip it. Agency Mode is quote-only and enterprise-gated, and no white-label client portal appears in the published tier descriptions. |
| Enterprise brand team with an analyst and a procurement checklist | Not us, and we will not pretend otherwise. No SOC 2, no SSO, no public API outside the Agency plan, and no query-volume panel. | Buy this. Up to 10 engines, Prompt Volumes, Agent Analytics, Workflows/Content suite, Aim orchestrator, API, SOC 2, SSO. Third parties report real contracts at $2,000–5,000+/mo plus one-time setup fees of $2,500–15,000. |
| eCommerce brand on Wix or a custom build, no developer | Partial fit — be clear-eyed. You get finished HTML and structured data ready to paste, and we verify it went live, but somebody on your side still pastes it. | Also partial. Its agents stage drafts to Webflow, WordPress, Sanity, and Contentful; a Wix or bespoke stack is outside that list too. |

Profound cells restate published materials verified August 2026; AEO Action cells state what the product does today. Verdicts are ours, and we are one of the two vendors — the disqualifiers section below is the counterweight.
When not to choose AEO Action
Every vendor comparison should carry one of these, written by the vendor, without softening. Six situations where buying our product would be a mistake:
- You need enterprise-grade analytics over a large prompt set. Solo Pro tracks 100 prompts; Agency tracks 50per client. If your program runs thousands of prompts with panel-scale query data behind them, that is Profound's Enterprise rung, not our ceiling.
- You want engine coverage and nothing to approve. The approve queue is not a setting. If your team will not review a prepared artifact most days, the department idles and you have bought an expensive tracker.
- You are on Wix, Shopify, or a custom build and expect a push. Direct publishing reaches Webflow and Squarespace; WordPress gets a plugin that pulls from us. Everything else gets paste-ready HTML — real output, but somebody pastes it.
- Procurement requires SOC 2, SSO, or a signed DPA today. We do not have them.
- You need reports emailed out this week.Email sending is not live in production. Reports live in the product and export as PDFs; they do not land in a client's inbox on a schedule yet.
- You want to enter a card and be billed automatically today. Card checkout is not live either. Trials genuinely take no card, which is the same fact read from the other side.
What switching actually costs
Neither direction is free, and the cost is rarely the subscription. Three line items to budget before you move:
- The prompt set gets rebuilt. An exported list of tracked prompts does not transplant cleanly, because tools define a prompt differently — and ours regenerates your buyer questions from your business profile on every scan rather than holding a fixed list. Expect to re-express what you were watching, not to import it.
- Historical trend data does not transfer. Whatever series you have built stays in the tool that built it. Your new baseline starts on day one, and the first month of a switch is not comparable with the last month of the old vendor. If a board deck depends on an unbroken line, run both for one cycle and switch at a reporting boundary.
- Contract timing decides the real date.Annual billing runs to term on either side, and Profound's reported one-time setup fees are sunk the moment they are paid. Time the move to a renewal, not to the day you make the decision.
How to settle it in one afternoon
The disagreement is testable. Book the Profound demo — the only hands-on path they offer. Then run the free audit: 10 of your buyers' questions across ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity, 30 live answers, the three most revealing quoted word-for-word, and a 30-day plan. The PDF is permanent; the share link lives 7 days. Compare what each showed you about your market; the right column usually picks itself.
The recommendation, unhedged: buy Profound if you have an analyst, a procurement checklist, and five figures a year for panel-scale data; buy AEO Action Solo at $149 or Agency at $549 if you have no writer and want pages shipped, submitted, and receipted at a listed price; and if you already employ writers and developers, buy neither — buy the cheapest daily tracker that covers your engines and spend the difference on their hours.
The free audit runs 30 live queries in about two to three minutes. No account, no email, no card — and no demo call on the other side of it.
